Update: we're on for noon Thursday, at the courtyard down by the kayaks/parking kiosk on Broad Canal Way.

Looking at the response, it looks like this Thursday the 10th would work out for a good number of people who've expressed interest, and the weather forecast looks good. So let's try for it then - say, 12 noon?

Now, the venue. I think the MIT food truck area makes sense for throughput and number of options, but there's not much seating around there, or even standing room. The indoor food court across the street is an option for rain, but it looks like we won't need it. Further down, the plaza near the kayak place on the canal has more seating and room in general, but I'd guess that we would overwhelm the burrito place's window there. So we could try to meet there, with each person bringing their food from wherever they like. Or if there's another option near the food truck area for people to gather, I'd be glad to hear about that. I'll update this post with more details

Are the food vendors on the "Pipeline" mailing list? If one area is going to be overrun by thousands of hungry Pipeline enthusiasts, they'd probably want a heads-up to prepare ahead of time. (Bring along an extra helper. Order extra bread, rice or napkins. Pre-prepare 5 buckets of steak or chicken or tofu instead of the usual 1 bucket. If they have to rush to feed the Pipeline crowd, quality might suffer and they really do want new customers to try their BEST stuff, not their rushed stuff. Kind of like med chem: don't tell me that I have 5 minutes to prepare 6 new compounds; give me some notice.)

I'll be there. I suggest that the secret handshake include two fists curled up in the shape of a pipeline.

Was a stupid idea where to have it in the first place, and is a stupid place still.

Wow, this sounds to be so much. I bet the most likely topic is the big Merck layoff.

Derek,
If you are looking for a large open space, how about the grass area between 300 and 500 Technology Square on Main Street. Many food options in that area and not too far from the food trucks

Is the garden on top of the parking garage in Kendall Square open again? People could grab their lunch at the trucks and then head up to the garden.

Congratulations on this meeting being mentioned on Instapundit. You might have people coming to it from there as well as In The Pipeline.

I'm not a regular reader, I came from Instapundit, but I'm interested. I'm a tenant at the Cambridge Innovation Center near Kendall station. Would you like me to look into a large meeting room? You can contact me through the email connected to the comments.

Great, Instapundit- if we kindly ask his readers not to bring guns, is that going to be considered an insult?

So, what did you decide? Food truck area, food court, or burrito/kayak place?

If the former, I have to confess that while I work in Kendall, I don't actually know where the food truck area is. I think I'm not trendy enough :)

The food trucks are behind the inbound T entrance, next to the MIT medical center. Carleton St., technically, although I don't think there are any signs saying that.

Looking forward to the get-together. Just wanted to ask what the final agreement on the meeting place is. Maybe the outdoor tables outside the food court in front of the Mariott?

My understanding is that we are to meet at the kayak place on the canal, with food already in hand.

Everyone seems to have a different idea of where we're meeting. So far we've got "My understanding is that we are to meet at the kayak place on the canal", "So it's at the food court area tomorrow around noon?" and "Enjoy the foodtruck food."

If there's not a post in the next hour or two clearing this up, we may have three different meetups.
