Derek Lowe, an Arkansan by birth, got his BA from Hendrix College and his PhD in organic chemistry from Duke before spending time in Germany on a Humboldt Fellowship on his post-doc. He's worked for several major pharmaceutical companies since 1989 on drug discovery projects against schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, diabetes, osteoporosis and other diseases.

In Geneva, the (former) headquarters of Serono. They're transferring some of the jobs, but at least 500 are gone - and the people holding them are being put out into what (from here) looks like a very unfriendly jobs market. . .
It will be much more than 500 job cuts unfortunately as transfer offers are not reasonable to accept
Merck paid board members 55 million Euros in bonuses over the last 5 years while some genius make such a killing decision and then claim cost cutting is « seemingly unavoidable ».
This strategic vision of Merck Serono wanting to Close its headquarters is actually highly criticized
